#NoMoCrime Event Delivers Vital Information to Concerned Modestans

On March 8th, Modesto6.com & the Modesto Police Department presented the 4th #NoMoCrime event was held at TooTall's Donuts & Cafe. This event was special, because it was at the same time large and small. It represented very differnt groups of people, yet people bound by a common desire to create a safer Modesto.

The 20+ people who showed up comprised small business owners, experts who can help those business owners, concerned neighbors, and those who have been victims of crime. Along with these people, both the Modesto Chief of Police Michael Harden and the Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christiansen attended the event. READ MORE

The different guests offered perspectives on what works and what doesn't. The group was small enough so that we could interact easily back and forth, but there were plenty of people who could provide a wide array of perspectives; stories of crime victimization, and stories of crime prevention.

Modesto-based State Farm Agent Pam Palombi discussed how crucial it is for a business to make use of best practices in protecting their business. Leaving your cash drawer out to be seen from outside the business as well as making the locations of surveilance cameras obvious are ways to deter criminals from even coming in to your business when you aren't there.

Chief Harden discussed making your business a hard target, and communicating with the other businesses in their neighborhood to share information about criminal activity. Sheriff Christiansen spoke about how being vigilant can mean everything. Keeping a watchful eye may seem easy to do, but maintaining vigilence can be very difficult to do while tring to keep a small business profitable.

Licensed therapist Miranda Palmer talked about the various feelings that can be at times can work against you in tense situations. She talked about feeling hurt and angry is natural, but that controlling those feelings is vital. The experts and information that are available in our neighborhoods is staggering.
