Get Out & Explore Your World!

The above video was shot 2 weeks ago at Knight's Ferry State Historical Park. It is a uniquely beautiful state park just 30 minutes from Modesto. It is a great place to wander, rock hunt, or for watersports such as rafting. Our family went to see what types of rocks we could find and to see the spring flowers in bloom. I was lucky, as I had just won a Twitter contest held by outdoor company Hi-Tec USA. I won a very nice pair of hiking boots which I had every intention of putting through their paces. The shoes were great, and we had lots of surprises come our way during the trip. I hope you enjoy the video, and that it inspires you to get out and explore your world a bit more!

Kindred Canines Pet Training Series.

The above video is the first in a series of videos offered by Kindred Canines Dog Rescue to help pet owners train their pets in order to have a healthier relationship with them.  Trinity and Jess are the founders of Kindred Canines, and together in this video discuss the topic of leash training your dog.  Please take note of their contact information at the end of the video, or click on their link on the Environmental page.

Look for future videos from Kindred Canines here on Modesto6, and much more from our community too!

Taking care: Tails & Trails!

How a community treats its surroundings, and how it treats its animals says a lot about it. We are very lucky in Modesto to have committed individuals who make animals and keeping our neighborhoods clean and safe a priority.

Reach out & make a difference to
the living things in Modesto!

We here in Modesto Have two great organizations that definitely stand out when it comes to helping Modesto's living non-human citizens. Kindred Canines and Modesto Parks & Recreation Dept. do a great job taking care of our animals, trails and other living things in our midst.

Trinity Balmonte Started Kindred Canines to save dogs who end up at county animal shelters who are scheduled to die after they have been at the shelter too long. She runs this operation from her home and does so at a loss. she does this strictly because she cares.

She travels with her husband Jess, who is a dog behaviorlist to shelters all over the state to see if there are dogs that are able to be rehabilitated and thus, saved. Kindred Canines needs your help. Please consider visiting their site, making a donation to help the rescue more dogs, or fostering a dog so that Kindred Canines can rescue one more animal from an unneccesary death.

Another organization caring for our natural surroundings is The City of Modesto Parks, Recreation & Neighborhoods Depatment. This group of city employees has done an amazing job of keeping our city beautiful, even under the most strenuous of budgetary situations.

The Parks, Recreation & Neighborhoods department has engaged the communitythrough social media to help organize community cleanups. They have also been instrumental in raising the profile of the city by continually being part of the group that brings The Amgen Tour of California to Modesto.

Thanks to many community leaders, and with the help of The Parks, Recreation & Neighborhoods department has been instrumental in changing Modesto from the inside out for the better! Check them out!
